2020 has been a very strange year for everything and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is no exception.
The professional schedule came to an end last week with the IEM XV Global Challenge. Thanks to that, we have identified the top earning teams of 2020. The results were not what many fans expected.
Here is the list of the top 10 highest earning CSGO esports teams in 2020:
- MAD Lions ($643,500)
- Virtus.pro ($641,750)
- Complexity ($632, 250)
- Astralis ($631, 000)
- Natus Vincere ($626,000)
- Team Vitality ($621,000)
- BIG ($519,604)
- OG ($465,750)
- MIBR ($460,592)
- FURIA Esports ($397,500)
Fans will probably be surprised to see MAD Lions and Virtus.pro take the top two spots in CSGO’s highest earnings compared to stronger teams like Astralis and Natus Vincere. Similar to Complexity, the team has been in constant decline over the summer. All three of these teams get most of their income from winning a major tournament, instead of playing consistently throughout the year.
MAD Lions and Virtus.pro get big money from FLASHPOINT prize system. This newly formed tournament runs for two seasons in 2020, with a total prize money of 1 million USD each and a first place prize of $ 500,000 USD. This award alone, MAD Lions and Virtus.pro have entered the top 10 highest earning teams in CSGO 2020, but they also compete in many other events.
Complexity’s money comes from a variety of tournaments, but more than half of the prize money comes from the BLAST Premier Spring 2020 European Finals.
As for Astralis, Natus Vincere and Vitality, they don’t focus on winning a major tournament, but play consistently throughout the year. All three won a big prize with prize money over $200,000 USD. In addition, they also ranked high in other prestigious tournaments, but could not match MAD Lions with Virtus.pro
FURIA has been the top team in North America for the past year. MIBR and OG were unstable throughout 2020. BIG didn’t see success in the major CSGO tournaments, but they performed consistently and ranked first in many mid-tier tournaments.
Where do MAD Lions come from?
MAD Lions are headquartered in Madrid, Spain but the squad is all Danish. The organization also has a League of Legends team with players from across Europe and participating in the Overwatch League based in Toronto, Canada.
Virtus.pro still Polish?
Virtus.pro’s CSGO team has long been just Polish players. Everything changed in 2019 when the organization disbanded the Polish squad to recruit AVANGAR, which was mostly Kazakh.
