Riot will reward those who find vulnerabilities and hack Valorant’s anti-cheat software, Vanguard.
For the past 6 years, the League of Legends developer has been running the Bug Bounty program on HackerOne. Riot has paid out more than $2 million in bounties to players who find bugs, glitches, and anything else that negatively impacts player security and privacy. The reward depends on the severity of the bug, with a bounty of at least $250.
After doing that for many years with League of Legends, Riot is now expanding the program to Valorant, which is currently in closed beta. The maximum bonus amount is $100,000.
“We never allow Riot to release a product that distrusts players. Players have every right to question and challenge us. But to be clear, the team will not work if it does not care about the trust and privacy of players, and Riot feels the same, “said the Riot security team.
Riot currently rewards the following money:
- Website security error
- Game bugs, like using third-party editing software into the game
- Security issues
- Bugs outside of Riot Games software, like Player Support Portal
Individuals who exploit these bugs must meet several requirements in order to receive the bounty. This bug must happen on the latest version of Vanguard and hackers have to come up with a concept to operate it so that Riot Games can reproduce the bug. It includes detailed reports. Bugs cannot be shared anywhere and they cannot be shared outside of this program unless allowed by Riot Games.
Riot is very serious about security and ensuring fair competition in Valorant. Although the game is still in closed beta, Riot is ready to ban the entire computer if it detects a Valorant hack.
