“We will be suspending the Major schedule until the Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournaments are safe to take place around the world. Until then, the team plans to continue to organize online RMR tournaments for the strongest team in each region,” Valve explained.
ESL Vice President Michal “CARMAC” Blicharz also spoke about the canceled tournaments and future plans. “It is really sad that we need to cancel this year’s CSGO Major, but we are doing everything we can to resume tournaments as before as soon as possible. The IEM Global Challenge will be our first step towards that. All plans will of course change as we need to wait for the COVID-19 situation. ESL’s top priority has always been the health and safety of the teams, coaches, management and support staff.”
This will mark 2020 as the first time since the launch of the tournament system (2013), a Valve-hosted CSGO Major has been cancelled.
