New Commandos game in development

In 2018, game publisher Kalypso Media announced they were resurrecting Commandos, the once stealthy tactical masterpiece. The team started with the Commandos 2 remaster, which came out last month, but Kalypso promises many more new games to come. Now, according to an announcement from Claymore Game Studios, one of the publisher’s studios, has begun developing the next Commandos.

We don’t know what the game will be called yet, as it’s still in the early stages of development.

“We are delighted to confirm that we have a new team and offices open in a short time,” said studio director Jürgen Reusswig. “The team has already begun to grow and we are looking for more talented members to join the team in the coming months. From there, become an iconic part of this strategy game.”

Hopefully the new game will have a better future than the remaster. The remaster currently receives mixed reviews on Steam due to too many bugs when the game was first released. The game has also been criticized for removing German and Japanese symbols, possibly because Kalypso is headquartered in Germany, where Nazi symbols will not be judged.

Claymore is currently recruiting, so it will be a while before we know more about the release date. If you want to find a strategy game similar to Commandos recently, you can try Shadow Tactics from developer Mimimi Games. However, Shadow Tactics is set in the era of Japanese warlords, not World War II like Commandos. Hopefully the new studio will recreate the success of the Commandos series for a while.
