With only 22 USD, the young hacker has made his own very good gloves and is compatible with the blockbuster Half-Life: Alyx.

Within a few months, a young hacker specializing in hardware named lucash_vrtech has researched and developed virtual reality tactile gloves with the goal of “cheap and easy to do”. The list of components includes a simple Arduino Uno circuit, a potentiometer, a rotary spring, a WD-40 spray can.

Lucas shared: “At first, this was just a fun project during the quarantine, but then it has attracted more than 200,000 followers, and it is no longer ‘small’. Now, I plan to develop this project further and help people access and love VR technology more“.

Lucas mainly posts work progress updates on Tiktok (here), where he has 300,000 followers as of December 2020. His project has grown dramatically, from a rudimentary giant glove to a high-tech wearable glove. Although they are still quite bulky, but with the $ 22 version, it is too good.

In the third version, it is also compatible with some VR games, typically Half-Life: Alyx. Accompanying that is the ability to track the movements of the fingers surprisingly well.

With the fourth version, the glove also integrates haptic feedback engines and they will give you a more realistic experience, similar to the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller. The haptic feedback technology also makes it easier to feel your fingers. Lucas posted a video about the next test version with the intention of shrinking the components as much as possible.

VR technology is very good and advanced, but the high price has made the virtual reality user community not really strong. Hopefully in the future Lucas can come up with a cheap and complete VR glove version, helping more people to access this technology. He also publishes the circuit board diagram, component list, and source code driver on Github so that everyone can make their own (refer to here).
