Vasilii banned from playing until 2020 for abusing his girlfriend

After 4 weeks of investigation, Riot finally gave the professional player a punishment.

Li “Vasilii” Wei Jun – professional player of the game League of Legends was banned from playing for the next 2 years by publisher Riot.

The player was suspended on October 27, shortly after a violent incident occurred on his stream. Riot immediately banned the player and opened an investigation into the matter. Not stopping there, the team that he is currently playing for, Newbee, also made the decision to terminate the continuation of his contract.

According to Riot’s information, Vasilii made “threats in the direction that will lead to physical violence” against his lover. This incident prompted Vasilii’s girlfriend to call the police shortly after. According to the victim, Vasilii damaged property in their home and even made threats against her.

Vasilli will be banned for 20 months, but due to the schedule of tournaments, he will be officially banned from tournaments that Riot organizes in 2018 or 2019.

“We have seen that there are acts of domestic violence that have happened to a defenseless person, which are factors that aggravate the problem.” Riot shared in their announcement: “If anyone does the above actions against another professional player, they can all be banned from playing for 10 months, but for the matter of physical threats or domestic violence, should be severely punished.”

Along with making the above decision, Riot also pointed out that Vasilii has a history of his violent behavior. In 2016, this enemy was suspended for his excessive “rage” behavior at the end of a match. Earlier that year he also caused significant damage to his teamhouse after losing a match.

This behavior is classified as “extreme misconduct” in Riot’s disciplinary policy, which usually carries a maximum ban of 12 months. The severity of Vasilii’s behavior led to Riot’s decision to significantly increase the penalty. From there, Riot will also remove the maximum ban period for extreme misconduct allegations.
