PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is preparing to finalize their newest map, the “Mini Royale” map of Sanhok. As part of the testing process, the game has had many significant changes. Among them is the individual map selection feature that players have requested since PUBG released the Miramar map. However, when testing this feature, it did not work as expected. PUBG Corp. announced today that map-by-map selection will not be available on the official server.
According to PUBG Corp., the company knew that choosing individual maps from scratch would create problems. They know that with the presence of new PUBG maps in the future, this feature will not be able to take care of it. The studio realized that, with only three maps, they couldn’t manage it either. Therefore, PUBG Corp. decided to remove this individual map selection feature.
The problem lies in the uncontrollable increase in the number of match seekers from the individual map selection feature. The PUBG server was immediately overloaded, having to calculate searches based on one or more maps, not to mention existing values such as the number of party members and the viewing angle of the game.
This means that the matchmakign system is broken down too much, making it almost impossible to make a match among selected features.
If the PUBG server can handle three maps, adding a fourth map (which PUBG revealed at E3 2018) will definitely overload the server.
That doesn’t mean PUBG Corp. Removed map selection altogether. They understand that players still have to control which part of the map they can choose, as well as promote the latest map. The current solution is to split the new matchmaking system. One will be the standard map, the second will be mini-maps like Sanhok. Players can choose either, or both if they want to randomly play all three maps.
Many new maps will appear in PUBG in the near future. The current plan is to add new maps in one of the two matchmaking branches, depending on the size of the map. But PUBG Corp. This plan may change as new maps are revealed.
