At the moment, PUBG players can own their own skins through the game process and they will require players to spend $2.50 to open. This system will be completely gone in the December 18 update, and these skins will now be unlocked with in-game currency BP, which is earned by playing the game.

Previously PUBG Corp. have changed the way these skins work many times. Often these changes are to reduce the odds of players receiving crates. This new change was introduced to the community after a series of negative feedbacks.

“The market value of lootboxes in PUBG is often determined by the user, and buying and selling items from the market is also part of the PUBG experience. These things contribute to the PUBG experience. However, the value of these skins is very low compared to other items in PUBG. This makes the pay chests no longer attractive to players, and earning chests is not exciting for players.”

There will now be more cool skins in lower tier crates. AR skins will be evenly distributed in ranks from high to low. Paid weapon skins will remain the same, but skins obtained in-game will now be unlocked with in-game currency.

“We have thought carefully and wanted to eliminate business models that upset players, especially when they have a low success rate. We will continue to refine the business model so that the fans feel that the money is worth it.”
