Out of trouble because of the plot leak, The Last of Us 2 was accused of plagiarism again

A few days ago, a more than 1 minute trailer of The Last of Us 2 has just been released by Naughty Dog to tease fans before the game’s official release on June 19. At the beginning of the trailer, Ellie appears with a guitar and is covering the song “True Faith” by New Order and this is the source of the accusations that the game studio is facing.

After the trailer was widely shared online, female singer Lotte Kestner accidentally discovered that the cover in The Last of Us 2 was an exact copy of her cover, which was released on the 2011 album Stolen. Although Kestner is also a cover of the original New Order song, her cover has a piece of music composed by the singer herself, so she can easily recognize it just by hearing it. Kestner then reached out to Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog’s Vice President on Twitter to talk about this: “I wrote a new piece of music myself, which was not in the original version of the song. I am very sad about this.”

Kestner said not only her but many other fans also noticed this and left comments under her old song, saying that the cover in The Last of Us 2 copied her original song. . After that, the female singer posted status lines with the meaning of claiming royalties from Naughty Dog, but they have now been deleted.

Before Kestner’s accusations. Naughty Dog has not yet responded. It’s not clear where things will go because Kestner is actually just covering the original New Order song, so the copyright issue is quite troublesome.
