Eiichiro Oda was born on January 1, 1975 in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture. He started his career in 1997 and has been working as a writer for the publishing house Shueisha ever since. In 1992, while still studying at Toukai University 2nd Middle School, Oda received the new writer award (Tezuka Award) from Shounen Jump magazine for his short story. Wanted!
