Support heroes are not directly regulated, but now have a very different role. 7.23 makes support stronger throughout the game and this is a great change.

However, there are still some minor support tweaks, and today’s article will look at those changes.

BANE

Changing Enfeeble to passive was an interesting decision. On the one hand, it cuts down on cast time to unleash a swarm of spells. On the other hand – this hero is now more independent, both beneficial and harmful, depending on the lineup.

The article believes this is a good thing, but in some cases Bane will no longer have the option to use Enfeeble as before. These cases are quite rare, though, and maybe it’s time to start playing Bane.

IO

IO has returned to support and is now appearing in high rank pubs. The new overcharge and the return of slow from Tether make this hero much more useful in the laning phase.

IO has the advantage of healing allies, which can be exploited well. In general, IO becomes more powerful.

SILENCER

The new Silencer isn’t exactly a support. This hero can still be played in a non-greedy position, but the way the hero has evolved now paves the way for several core playstyles. With the mechanism from the old Outworld Devourer where damage is calculated based on the Intelligence difference, it can turn Silencer into a core that deals extreme damage. This hero can hit very hard in the later stages of the game without having to invest a lot of damage.

Otherwise, Silencer no longer has the ability to pierce spell-immunity with Glaives of Wisdom. This is quite a headache. Outworld Devourer can shine in prolonged combat, when BKB gradually loses its effects. The article believes this is an opportunity to play Silencer.

TREAT PROTECTOR

This old but new treant has somewhat lost its originality. This hero used to have some interesting interactions with plants, which is a strong point of Treant. Fortunately, they returned to Treant in patch 7.23c last.

The new Treant is one of the strongest supports in the current meta with a map presence and some powerful tools in teamfight, even when his ultimate is on cooldown. This hero may not be as good at scouting anymore, but it makes up for it with a better hit set.

UNDYING

Undying used to be one of the most underrated heroes in the patch. Flesh Golem is heavily nerfed, not as strong as before. Although the old version is not too strong or scary, it is still a percentage of health damage. The current Flesh Golem lacks what it takes to play Undying as a support, at least.

In addition to losing the damage effect as a percentage of health, this move is more situation-dependent, as it requires Undying to actually hit objects in order to apply the effect. Maybe changing Undying to offlane to farm will bring positive results, but this hero doesn’t really farm too well. Therefore, the future of Undying in this patch is still unknown.

VENGEFUL SPIRIT

Still the strongest support in the current patch despite being nerfed, Vengeful Spirit is what position 4 Luna wanted, but never achieved. The amount of extra stats if in the right situation can create very strong tempo processing phases, besides the increased range is also a plus.

Also, Vengeful Spirit’s Aghanim upgrade is now considered the best upgrade in the game, as it disables AoE after performing a Nether Swap. Knowing how to use the ultimate effectively will make the game plan clearer and more effective.

Vengeful Spirit is currently strong in the laning phase, strong in the mid game, and one of the heroes with the highest potential late game, both offensively and defensively. That’s why VS currently has a 60% win rate in games from Divine and up, and we have no reason not to pick this hero.
