When the new TI8 Battle Pass was released, Valve announced that there would be a special crate for those with a battle pass that reached level 615: “The Promise of Eminent Revival.” This box includes the skins that appeared in TI of the previous years, with a completely new style.
After its release on July 17, the Dota 2 community was not satisfied at all. Bundle simply consists of old sets with a green screen bordering on additional items. The Dota 2 subreddit is full of complaints, to the point where some have dubbed it the “Box of Disappointment.”
However, Valve really didn’t promote anything wrong. According to the crate description from the battle pass on the Dota 2 site:
As a special gift to Battle Pass owners who reach level 615, we’re giving away the Legacy Bundle ‘Promise of Eminent Revival’ later in the summer with five items selected from old Battle Pass Immortal crates, including styles Unlockable for you to get while playing.
The thing that makes the community most angry is the battle pass level required to receive this box. In order to receive the “non-tradeable” and “non-purchaseable” crates, players need to reach level 615 – which is too much of a requirement – so battle pass users want more than that.
Basically, Valve did nothing wrong, but the sets are ‘too bad’. This year’s TI theme is clearly green, but just adding the right color to old sets isn’t what we’ve come to expect from Valve. While Valve hopes the total bounty can be increased slightly when this box is released, the chart tracking the amount of TI8 bounty shows that it has no impact at all.
