The ChongQing Major’s Chinese qualifier came to an unsurprising end. Still, the three strongest teams in the region from two months ago won tickets to the second Major.
The China ChongQing Major Qualifiers are a bit different from the remaining regions and have more participating teams. The tournament starts with 10 teams divided into 2 groups of 5 teams. Unlike other regions, the group stage of China competes in a circle, BO2 with the top 2 teams participating in the playoff double elimination round.
PSG.LGD and EHOME topped Group A while Aster and ViCi Gaming took the same place in Group B. Despite performing well in the group stage, PSG.LGD struggled in the first series, being crushed by ViCi Gaming with two draft Terrorblade. In game 1, PSG.LGD only managed to get 6 lives and while game 2 was somewhat better, VG’s Paparazi didn’t give the opponent a chance to control the map. Victory over PSG.LGD is enough to help VG win tickets to the Major. Meanwhile, Aster of BurNing also won EHOME for the second ticket.
EHOME and PSG.LGD have to participate in an important match to get the final ticket. After losing game 1 completely, EHOME won game 2 thanks to a simple but effective Medusa-Monkey combo. Unfortunately, PSG.LGD revived in the last game with Maybe’s Dragon Knight, pushing the game up to a fast tempo. EHOME once again has Medusa, but this time playing with Timbersaw. In theory, the longer the match, the higher their chances of turning the tide. And EHOME almost did, when at 28 minutes the team wiped out LGD’s entire lineup. Unfortunately, EHOME used up all his ultimates by then and there was nothing left to pressure the lanes.
PSG.LGD, Aster and ViCi Gaming will be the three Chinese teams playing at home at the ChongQing Major. The event runs from January 19 to 27 with a total of 16 teams: $1 million in prize money and 15,000 DPC points.
