This issue seems to be related to multiple gun parameters – those that contribute to the weapon’s wall-penetrating power – including the weapon’s base damage. As explained, SG 553 has lower base damage than AK-47 or Deagle. As demonstrated by Savjy above, this makes it impossible for the SG 553 to shoot through sheet metal, whereas previous weapons did very easily.
On Reddit, FMPONE said Valve should redo the weapon purchase table and gun parameter interface to let players understand the value of each gun to use it properly.
