fnatic came back with a 1 map lead to take down Vitality 2-1 and win DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019.

After a 19-month title thirst, fnatic finally tasted victory. The Swedish team last won a major championship at IEM Katowice 2018, with four current members still playing for the team. At DreamHack this time, Fnatic fought off a powerful Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut to write a new fairy tale in CSGO history.

Fnatic needed all three maps to win, but they could have finished the finals sooner. Fnatic took a 14-12 lead at Dust2 but let Vitality flip the odds in the final rounds. Victory also did not come easily when the Swedes had a hard time finishing the Inferno map – the team wasted 9 map points before deciding their own fate at overtime. Then on to Mirage, fnatic won by a tight margin in the eco round, while being cornered.

This is a well-deserved win for fnatic, they are the better performing team in most of the series. RpK at Dust2 and ALEX at Mirage are the big obstacles other than ZywOo – unfortunately, the young French talent can’t carry everything, especially against a strategic Golden. Overall, this is still an impressive journey of Vitality. This is the first tournament since they replaced NBK-. The French boys need to overcome this defeat to prepare for the first round of ESL Pro League Season 10, which is about to start in a few days.

The shox treble opened the way for Vitality to take a 3-0 lead on the T side at Dust2. fnatic’s first round win sent the stadium into a frenzy, but Vitality undaunted the pressure from the crowd and continued to break through the Swedish defense, leading 5-2.

The flusha quadruple marked fnatic’s strong rise. They adapted well to the slow approach of their opponents and won 9 roudn before going into the second half.

On the CT side, Vitality won the pistol round thanks to RpK’s successful 1v2 clutch, somewhat reducing the burden on ZywOo. The French star and shox formed a deadly AWP duo, helping CT regain control, but fnatic picked up the pace and made it 14 first. The home team could not deliver the finishing blow. Vitality tightened the defense and gained the upper hand, winning all the remaining rounds to enter the map Inferno.

Vitality won the first pistol round on the CT side, but they soon fell apart when flusha hit B, knocking out two CTs pushing Banana, turning the situation into 5v3. That round sparked the fnatic boom. The team played convincingly, but led a tight lead as Vitality took control in the final rounds.

fnatic returned after half-time and hit the map point at 15-9, completely shutting down Vitality’s attacks. It seemed that Inferno would end soon, but like Dust2, the Swedish team could not win another round, allowing the French team to counterattack and push the game to overtime.

Despite losing the victory right in front of their eyes, the Golden army remained calm and won 3-0 on the CT side. Vitality tries to find a lifeline but has a loophole: fnatic hears the sound and knows the opponent rotates to B, so total attack power to win at A.

flusha is the hero of fnatic, getting 3 important frags in the pistol round despite being 3v5 weak. Vitality pulled back in the gun round and took a 4-2 lead, with an ace coming from ALEX – a player who had been pretty empty before. The first half was fairly even, and the French team temporarily took a three-round lead before the two sides changed sides.

Vitality widened the gap when it switched to T, but the game changed unexpectedly when fnatic saved money. The Swedish team established a solid defense and reached the championship point first, not losing a round. In a position with nothing to lose, Vitality applied pressure and cornered CT. But again, in true fnatic style, the boys won the round in an unbelievable way, with just pistols and made the home team burst with joy.
