Which cards have been changed?

Throughout the year, following revisions, the 12 cards were changed to help balance the game.

  • Bonemare — Increased from 7 mana to 8 mana
  • Corridor Creeper — Attack reduced from 5 to 2
  • Dreadsteed — Changed to “Deathrattle: At the end of the turn, summon a Dreadsteed”
  • Fiery War Ax — Increased from 2 mana to 3 mana
  • Hex — Increased from 3 mana to 4 mana
  • Innervate — Grants 1 Mana Crystal (instead of 2 as before)
  • Murloc Warleader — No longer +1 Health
  • Naga Sea Witch — This card’s effects will apply before other mana-changing effects.
  • Patches the Pirate — No longer charges
  • Raza the Chained — Hero power reduced to 1 mana (instead of 0 as before)
  • Spreading Plague — Increased from 5 mana to 6 mana
  • The Caverns Below —Increased the number of minions needed to complete the quest from 4 to 5.

What new do we have?

New expansions

This year, Hearthstone players received three new expansions with the introduction of Knights of the Frozen Throne and new ways to approach expansions. All times are calculated according to the America, Europe and Asia region receiving the expansion 1 day later.

The first expansion of the year, Journey to Un’Goro, was released on April 6, 2017, marking the beginning of the Mammoth year. We have 135 new cards, a keyword, a new effect called Adapt, and a whole new card type, the 1 mana Legendary: Quest!

  • Knights of the Frozen Throne

Released on August 10, 2017, Knights of the Frozen Throne marked the beginning of a series of very interesting changes. Not only are we getting an expansion with 135 new cards, it’s also the start of a new game mode in the form of Missions (located in Solo Adventure, but you don’t have to pay to play them) and is the first expansion with a new rule about opening Legendary.

Starting with this expansion, you will no longer have to open existing Legendaries (in any set) and you will never have to receive 3 identical cards in the same pack again!

Besides, you will be guaranteed that there will definitely be 1 Legendary in the first 10 packs of each new set of cards.
Some of the new elements included in this expansion are the introduction of the Hero Death Knights, the Lifesteal effect, and a new Hero, Prince Arthas.

Blizzard used every way to upgrade this expansion, they even included… Lich King, a legendary character in WoW into Hearthstone!

The last expansion of the year, Kobolds and Catacombs, was released on December 7, 2017. Kobolds and Catacombs made a big splash when Blizzard gave all players a completely free Legendary Marin the Fox card as a small introduction. When the expansion was released with 135 new cards, it brought with it legendary weapons for all classes and the new effect Recruit.

New way of design and organization

Before the year of Mammoth, if you were to ask a Hearthstone player what form the new cards would be presented in, the answer would have been 3 new card introductions, alternating between expansion and Adventure.

However, in the past year, everything has changed. During the year of Mammoth, Blizzard only released expansion packs, however, starting with Knights of the Frozen Throne, Blizzard included another version of Adventure in the expansion, and it’s free! So don’t worry, the Adventures will still be there, just changed.

  • Icecrown Citadel: Knights of the Frozen Throne solo game mode. In it, players will fight through different bosses of the Icecrown Citadel to finally encounter The Lich King. Players who defeat The Lich King with all 9 classes will unlock the new Paladin Hero, Prince Arthas.
  • Dungeon Run: It is also a solo game mode, but the method is completely different from previous versions. In Dungeon Run, players choose a class to fight through 8 different bosses (or lose midway – you’ll start over). Each time the player overcomes a boss, the player adds 3 more cards, and every time the player passes 2 bosses, the player receives an effect or a special card (the above cards or effects are not in the Collection). your).

Present in Journey to Un’Goro, Quests are 1-mana spells that, upon fulfilling its conditions, will return a reward card to the hand. Currently each class has a Quest card, and their rewards can be spells, minions or weapons. One point worth noting: Quest always appears when picking the card at the beginning of the match (you can still discard it, of course). Quest rewards are all very powerful cards, and so when a deck plays a Quest, it will be built to complete that Quest and utilize the rewards to the fullest extent. Here are the current quests:

The Hero card type debuted in the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion and is a powerful addition to Hearthstone. The Hero cards transform your original Hero into a fearsome Death Knight, change the original Hero Power, to 5 armor and have a very powerful Battlecry. For the first time, in the Kobolds & Catacombs expansion, Legendary weapons appear as a card and can be used like any other regular weapon. New effects

  • Adapt: The Adapt effect allows the player to Discover an additional text for the minion (randomly from 10 different texts) and strengthens the minion (each text is worth about 1 mana). Those texts include effects that we already know: Taunt, Poisonous, Windfury, etc. For example: Adaptation
  • Lifesteal: Cards with the Lifesteal effect heal your Hero for an amount equal to the amount of damage they deal to any other character on the field. Example: Wickerflame Burnbristle
  • Recruit: The Recruit effect allows to randomly summon a minion from the player’s deck to the board (Battlecry effects are not activated). Example: Guild Recruiter

New Heroes

During the year of Mammoth, there are 3 new Heroes for the Rogue, Paladin and Warlock classes.

You can get the Maiev skin of the Rogue class when you win 10 matches in Standard. As long as there is a Mammoth year, the player will still receive this skin, but the opportunity will disappear once the year of Raven begins.

You will unlock Arthas after defeating The Lich King in Icecrown Citadel solo mode using all 9 classes.

Most Card Backs can be obtained by reaching rank 20 during the seasons (except for the February and March seasons – you must win 5 Ranked matches). The Year of Mammoth was another great year for Hearthstone. We get a lot of new cards, especially cards so powerful that they have the potential to change the course of a lot of games.
