YouTube game channel Machinima deletes all videos accumulated over the past 10 years

In the early days of YouTube, Machinima was the platform’s major gaming channel. This channel has collaborated with many YouTubers, released many new videos, and reached over 12 million subscribers over the past 10 years. Machinima continues to be one of the biggest YouTube channels in the world, but on January 18, Machinima removed all videos, including those that are more than 10 years old.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear why Machinima decided to clean up his channel, but it does appear to be related to Otter Media – AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner. Several Machinima content creators switched to Otter Media after the acquisition, while others were laid off.

Machinima has yet to comment on the matter. In addition, the response from content creators said they were not warned that their videos would be taken down. It is not clear if Machinima intends to recover these videos, or if they will be lost forever.

While many YouTubers have fond memories of Machinima, the company doesn’t always have a good reputation. There are a few cases where Machinima confronts its own content creators, as they did with Ben Vacas – who signed a permanent contract with the company. That means Machinima has full rights to place ads on all Vacas videos for the rest of his life. The Creators also condemned Machinima for misleading them and being unclear about its advertising and monetization policies.

In addition to the feud between Machinima and many of the content creators the company has partnered with over the years, the company was also found to be paying YouTubers to create videos praising Xbox One. This led to the US Interbank Trade Commission (FTC) investigating and imposing some restrictions on Machinima.

The fact that the Machinima YouTube channel deleted all of its videos really made fans extremely regretful because it was tied to the game’s history for more than 10 years. Hopefully we will soon get an official announcement from Otter Media regarding this matter.
