With just 5 months to go before the most important tournament of the year, The International kicks off, Valve is now sharing more information about the event.

The theme of The International 2019 will focus on “old, ruined forests”. Valve has invited artists on the Steam workshop to get creative. However, the Dota 2 developer also considers creations that are not limited to this year’s theme.

“Slightly different this year, you should note that while we are happy to see item sets themed on old ruins forests, artists should not constrain their works to only theme this year. We’re also interested in high-quality designs, whatever the theme,” said valve. This change was well received by the artists, as they did not have to delay what they were designing while the TI theme was happening like in previous years.

In addition to item sets, couriers, terrain and everything in the game, Valve also accepts clothing designs, real life items.

From Valve’s announcement:

“Our product partners are also ready to create some new designs for this year’s Dota 2 merchandise booth. If you have an idea that will please your fans, submit your design to the Workshop with the tag “Merchandise” and see how the community supports it.

Designs for TI9 for Collector’s Cache 2019 must be submitted by Sunday, May 12, and as in previous years, Valve encourages artists to avoid using “ideas involving skulls, gore, and disgust .”

What does the theme of old, ruined forests mean?

This year’s theme shows that TI has once again taken the color green as the main theme. The previous TI color sets have never been repeated for two consecutive years.

From TI1 to TI8, the colors of each event are as follows:

  • TI1 – Red
  • TI2 – Blue
  • TI3 – Green
  • TI4 – Purple
  • TI5 – Gold
  • TI6 – Red
  • TI7 – Blue
  • TI8 – Green

With the way Valve has themed each of The International, as well as the event that will be held in China, fans were expecting this year to be purple, red or yellow. Green is the main color of TI8 and two new heroes were announced here. Grimstroke and Mars are now both added to the game.

In addition, a few months after TI8, Valve released Artifact, a Dota 2 card game, but unfortunately it was not as successful as the game it was inspired by. However, back in November 2018 when Artifact was first released, the game had a total of 44 heroes, some champions were created just for the game and until now, have not appeared in Dota 2. Sorla Khan, Rx and Kanna are Some heroes aren’t present in Dota 2. While Sorla Khan is a warrior-type hero, the leader of the Red Mist army in the Artifact storyline, Rix and Kanna fit the theme of this year’s TI very well.

Sorla Khan, while not a hero that really fits the green/forest theme, she could well be on valve’s list of new hero announcements. She would be the perfect match for Mars, the new god of war added to the game this March.
