Figures for December 2018 show Valve broke a new record for the number of accounts using hacks in my system that were banned by VAC.

Valve’s Anti-Cheat, VAC for short, is an automated system created by Valve to detect cheat software installed on the player’s computer, such as aimbot or x-ray (see through walls). If a user connects to the VAC-Secured system with cheat software installed on the machine, they will be banned from playing that game.

VAC is widely used in many games of Valveincluding Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, DOTA 2, and Team Fortress 2.

VAC you achieved a record in the last month of 2018

It looks like the system was overworked in December, with over 500,000 Steam accounts banned by VACs, hitting a new record in the one-month period.

Prior to December, the record for the most VAC bans of the month occurred in July 2018, with 193,000 accounts banned.

Interestingly enough, it seems that the number of games banned this month is much higher than the number of VAC bans, with more than 700,000 games banned compared to April 2018 (1.6 million).

Although VAC bans are usually due to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive games, this time it is mainly from DOTA 2, Team Fortress 2 and other games that use the VAC system.

Valve has yet to comment on what causes so many accounts to be banned in December, but many CS:GO fans believe it may be because CSGO games become free, encouraging players to use hacks and know that they will not have to pay to play the game again (if banned).
