Speaking to Edge magazine, Kaplan shared that his definition of a sequel is “a brand new game with new gameplay and features, as well as an evolution of the game’s world”. Accordingly, Kaplan stated that Overwatch 2 is “clearly a new sequel” because “everything is expanded compared to the original game, so we consider it a sequel.”

The game brings a lot of new things in gameplay for Overwatch fans. Blizzard confirmed Overwatch 2 will have a new hero as well as a new game mode called “Push”. In addition, a new map has also been added which, according to rumors, will be one of the settings in the game. With new designs for old characters and new story missions, Blizzard will fix some bugs that players encountered in the first game.

However, many people still disagree with Kaplan’s definition of a sequel. Overwatch 2’s story missions weren’t shared with players of the first game, but they weren’t worth the $60 price tag of a new title, according to them.
