He met his colleague – Douglas Engelbart, at Stanford Research Institute, who also helped English make his dream come true. After a series of research and experimentation, Engelbart and English created the first computer mouse in 1963. In December 1968, they held a presentation called The Mother of All Demos in San Francisco, the lecture. The couple’s speech not only inspired the future of laptops and desktops, but also the smartphones and tablets we use today.

Recently, William English’s family mourned the news that the “father” of the computer mouse had just died of respiratory failure, aged 91. His colleague, Douglas Engelbart, also passed away in 2013 at the age of 88.
