Steam officially revealed the biggest game of 2019

Valve announced the winning games at Steam Awards 2019. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice of From Software won the title “Game of the year“, beating Resident Evil 2, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Destiny 2, and Devil May Cry 5. This isn’t a big surprise – Sekiro has also been voted Game of the Year at TGA 2019 before.

“VR Game of the Year” was awarded to Beat Saber. The game has fallen far behind Blade & Sorcery, Gorn, Borderlands 2 VR and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted. Beat Saber has built an incredible popularity and community of players in just the past year.

However, the “Fruits of Love” award is a category that encounters some controversy, as this award is given to Grand Theft Auto DRAW. Although, in 2019 GTA Online is updated with a lot of new content, is it enough to compete with the likes of Warframe, Rainbow Six Siege, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2?

The “More fun with friends” award goes to DayZ, which defeated Risk of Rain 2, Dota Underlords, Age of Empires II, and Ring of Elysium. DayZ is well-deserved, but it’s hard to believe that the list of nominees for the category is rather limited despite the plethora of co-op titles on Steam.

The same story happened with the “Most Innovative Gameplay” award 2019, which went to My Friend Pedro. It’s definitely a great game, but is My Friend Pedro’s gameplay really more innovative than Baba Is You, Slay the Spire, Oxygen Not, and Planet Zoo? This category once again makes people feel that there are other titles more suitable but not nominated.

Steam’s “Excellent Story-Rich Game” of 2019 is A Plague Tale: Innocence. Asobo’s touching tale of two sisters in medieval France won against Disco Elysium, Far Cry: New Dawn, Gears 5 and Greedfall.

Mortal Kombat 11 won the “Best Game You Play Badly” category. Mordhau, Code Vein, Hunt: Showdown and Remnant: From the Ashes are also nominated in this category.

Finally, the award for “Excellent Graphic Style” in 2019 goes to Gris by Nomada Studio. The titles also nominated in the same category are Total War: Three Kingdoms, Astroneer, Katana Zero and Subnautica: Below Zero.
