Last November, Stardew Valley developer Eric Barone said Stardew Valley multiplayer development was “going pretty well”. Surely everyone who plays this game also dreams of one day having a friend develop a farm, or go digging in a tunnel, right?
Now, with update 1.3, the multiplayer of Stardew Valley has officially entered the beta phase.

Via Steam and LAN, up to four players can join the new game or join the save game side of the room creator’s single player mode. Each player will have their own cabin and work together on the farm, mining, fishing and fighting monsters.
The difficulty will be adjusted to help balance the game between players. In addition, the game will have a new dialog box to chat with optional emojis (with 200 customizable Stardew Valley available) for players to communicate with friends.
You can date characters in Pelican town or make a wedding ring to propose to other players. Similarly, you can divorce or block that player by destroying their cabin.
Here are instructions from Chucklefish to join the beta:
- Sign in to your Steam account
- In the Games Library, right click on Stardew Valley
- Select Properties -> Beta
- Enter Beta access code: “jumpingjunimos” and press Check Code
- Then, select Beta in the Beta selection above
- If you have any problems accessing the beta or experience bugs, email Stardew Valley at [email protected] (English please)
Chucklefish also advises players to back up their data: “Your safe file is located in %APPDATA%StardewValleySaves on Windows, or ~/.config/StardewValley/Saves on Mac and Linux. You should delete any previously installed mods – mods are being tweaked for compatibility.”
As for the single player side, Stardew Valley’s 1.3 update adds horse hats, new events and cutscenes, and a 3-day winter carnival.
