Sony and Epic Games are currently on the same page.

According to the latest announcement released by Epic Games on April 13, the company said it has completed a new funding round worth $ 1 billion. In particular, the Japanese game industry giant – Sony has “pumped” them 250 million USD. After receiving new funding, Epic Games’ value continued to soar, reaching $28.7 billion.

“We are grateful to our investors for supporting our vision for Epic and Metaverse,” Epic CEO Tim Sweeney, who remains the company’s largest shareholder, said.

“Their investment will help accelerate our work around building connected social experiences in Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys, and empower game developers and creators to play with Unreal Engine, Epic Online Services and Epic Games Store.”

As for Sony, the company is also very pleased to be one of the shareholders of Epic Games. Although the number of shares Sony holds for the year is not much (about 450 million USD), the Japanese giant always puts its full faith in the father of Fortnite.

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida commented: “Epic continues to deliver revolutionary experiences through cutting-edge technology. Supporting creators in gaming and across the digital entertainment industry.”

Thus, after the first funding in July 2020, Sony is increasingly showing its determination to join hands with Epic Game to overthrow Steam. Not sure where this intense competition will go, let’s wait and see.
