shroud continues to keep top viewership on Twitch after re-streaming

Michael “shroud” Grzesiek was the most watched streamer on Twitch this past week. It all started when the former CSGO player returned to Twitch on August 12. He reached more than 500,000 continuous viewers just minutes after going live on Twitch. Shroud then also had 22,000 subscribers within two hours of streaming.

“Feeling great. I wasn’t worried at first, but as the viewership continued to grow. I thought ‘I don’t deserve this’. Then I thought, ‘Unbelievable, this is so big.’ I’m just a guy who plays games,” the streamer said back in the day.

The rest of the week continued to see shroud’s success, as he mostly played Valorant. Streamer reached more than 100,000 viewers in more than 40 hours of streaming, totaling 4 million hours of viewing in just one week.

These numbers make him the most watched streamer on Twitch, more than double the average viewership from other popular streamers like xQc and NICKMERCS.

It’s really not surprising that shroud has maintained such success after re-streaming on Twitch. Before he left to Microsoft’s Mixer, this popular streamer had reached a record of more than 126,000 viewers during his peak.

shroud also shared with fans during a recent stream that the reason he chose to return to Twitch was because he knew that was where he would be most successful. shroud says Twitch is where he was “born and raised”, so stepping back into Twitch, as opposed to Facebook Gaming or YouTube, is just about “feeling right”.

While the shutdown of Mixer was seen as a rather painful stumbling block for shroud, as he predicted the platform would overtake Twitch, returning to Twitch was still an experience he was very pleased with. On Mixer, shroud averaged 24,000 viewers in the first month. His viewership dropped after that, staying at around 10,000 for most of his stream.

Currently, shroud is averaging 60,000 viewers per stream, enough to help him return to the top streamer position on this most popular streaming platform.
