Razer’s new Ripsaw HD capture card lets you both play 4K and stream 1080p

Razer Ripsaw HD

Razer continues to expand its lineup of devices. This time it’s Ripsaw HD, a cross-platform capture card that captures Full HD 1080p video at 60 fps.

It is similar to Elgato’s Game Capture HD60 S – considered the best capture card for PC gaming. However, Razer’s new card has a couple of better features – it’s low cost and achieves 4K 60fps passthrough.

4K passthrough means you can play games in 4K, if your computer is powerful enough, while sharing 1080p gameplay with your viewers. This is one of the strong points of Ripsaw HD.

“With Ripsaw HD, streamers now have capture cards that can stream the latest games at high resolutions and frames to both PC and console,” said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer. “Viewers will enjoy Full HD streams, while streamers can enjoy their games on 4K passthrough.”

However 4K passthrough only allows you play at 4K, not video at that resolution.

Here are the device configuration details:

  • Maximum resolution: 1080p 60fps uncompressed
  • Connector: USB 3.0 . only
  • Video receiving port: Digital – HDMI 2.0
  • Audio multiplier port: Digital – HDMI

  • Video output port: HDMI 2.0

  • Support other resolutions: 2160p, 1080p, 1440p, 720p, 480p
  • Consists of: USB3.0 Type C to Type A Cable, HDMI 2.0 Cable, 3.5mm Audio Line

Ripsaw HD also features audio mixing. Users can use their microphone through the card without “lag”. The benefit of it is that you can use one microphone for multiple computers, instead of having to use an audio mixer to control game communication and audio streams.

The Ripsaw HD is priced at $159.99 and will go on sale on April 11. It’s $10 cheaper than Elgato’s HD 60S at its regular price. If it works as advertised, the $10 difference is worth the investment for Ripsaw HD’s 4K passthrough and new audio support.
