Razer cancels contract with female streamer after she says ‘men are trash’

Gabriela Cattuzzo

On June 21, Brazilian streamer, Gabriela Cattuzzo, responded quite offensively to a series of sexually harassing messages on Twitter. She ended by replying, “And this is why men are trash.”

After that tweet from Cattuzo, Razer in Brazil announced they would not be renewing the contract with the streamer. “As gamers, we confront stereotypes and stereotypes, and we will continue to fight to make sure this doesn’t happen again.” Razer Brazil said it is “opposed to any bizarre behavior – whether it’s gender, religion, politics – or any extreme behaviour.”

This situation leads to controversy. Some criticized Razer’s suspension of Cattuzzo’s renewal, saying she was only reacting to protect herself. Others criticized Cattuzzo, saying her comments were offensive. Finally, Cattuzzo apologized for offending people with his tweet.

“I reacted rudely to a mindless joker, and offended a lot of people, and I apologize for that,” she said on Twitter. “I don’t apologize for having to defend myself. I will always protect myself.” Cattuzzo later explained she didn’t mean to offend all men. She shared that every day she posts photos and “most of the comments are offensive or sexually harassing. Men don’t comment like on her Twitter very few.”

Cattuzzo announced that she will stop using social media and streaming games for a while. The reason was because things got out of control. Cattuzzo’s family and hers were threatened with death and cyber harassment. It is currently unclear if Cattuzzo will return to streaming the game or not.
