Ranking Assassin’s Creed games from worst to best

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is coming soon, and it looks like we’ll be getting a new Assassin’s Creed game almost every year from now on. The series often offers realistic world settings, amazing cities, and appearances from important historical figures, but that’s not the case with all games. While we wait for more information on Odyssey, let’s rank the names in this series from worst to best in the opinion of PC Gamer editors.

The following list will not include the 2D Chronicles game, but focuses on the 3D blockbusters that brought fame to the Assassin’s Creed series.

Assassin’s Creed

There are too many Assassin’s Creed games that are repeated on the slopes of the original. Once you’ve finished playing one part of Assassin’s Creed, another will be available immediately. Climbing the first tower feels great, the last thirty towers are… not sure.

Assassin’s Creed Liberation

This 2012 Vita game lets you experience stealth in more interesting ways than many of the others on the list. As Aveline, you can change costumes to make yourself a slave or a rich lady, taking advantage of NPCs to enter restricted areas and get close to targets. However, the number of changing places is not much, making the change of clothes quite time consuming, but the main problem is how it works on handheld systems. Perspective is a big part of the appeal of the Assassin’s Creed series, and Liberation struggled to bring it to PC.

Assassin’s Creed Unity

Paris is one of the most loved scenes. It looks gorgeous, even the slums. Unfortunately, it was an overly ambitious project and had a lot of technical flaws. The loot system in Unity hinted that the series was heading towards the RPG genre long before Origins was released, but it wasn’t very exciting. Arno is a completely unknown character and his plot is extremely boring. A missed opportunity in a beautiful setting.

Assassin’s Creed 3

This third game offers players a beautiful world, but it lacks interaction so much that you would rather not be in it. With the combat system as if the whole game plays itself on a beautiful background, but in return it also introduces the combat system at sea – the main mechanism of Black Flag. Even so, Assassin’s Creed 3 has a boring protagonist, unclear instructions, and some of the worst missions in the series. The towns in the game are not as interesting as London, Paris, Venice or Rome. It’s a pity, because not many games are about the colonial era, but AC3 can fail and make things boring when set in this historical period. And the game also has a lot of bugs.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue

An average attempt to recreate the Black Flag experience in cold, boring winter tones. The battle system on board is still fun, but it’s hard not to have moments of deja vu (feeling like something happened) if you’ve played and enjoyed Black Flag before.

Assassin’s Creed Revelation

If you want to play an AC game right now, then Revelation, the third installment in the Ezio trilogy, won’t be a good choice. This part of the game is full of unnecessary features and boring pastimes. For example, the tower defense game, even the crafting system is nowhere to be found.

The most interesting part might be the hook blade that lets you swing on ropes through the buildings of Constantinople. They’re pretty fun, and you get to play with Leonardo Da Vinci too. Plus, Revelations has some of the craziest action of the entire series. Overall, though, it’s a bit messy.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

London is a brilliant setting, and the idea of ​​​​using the two main characters is quite effective, as well as climbing equipment to help you move faster and easier. But Syndicate doesn’t make much of an effort to change the formula and make itself stand out from the rest. And of course there are also bug issues in some missions. In general, it is more refined than Rogue and less buggy than AC3.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

Brotherhood depicts the city of Rome very well, but many players want to explore more cities than just one. However, you will fall in love with it right away, through building the assassination school and exploring the ancient catacombs around the city. In addition, you can also press the first button and call on other assassins to solve everything for you, making yourself feel powerful and deadly.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

Given the sheer number of games and the longevity of the Assassin’s Creed series, it’s surprising that we’re still impressed by such a beautiful and realistic large open world. Although the combat mechanics and leveling system were mixed, it set a new standard for the AC series. And no other game can recreate the bustling atmosphere of the bustling markets like Origins, along with the panoramic view of Egypt overhead through the eye of an eagle.

Assassin’s Creed 2

A gripping action-adventure in a lively setting, an exciting protagonist and a decades-long revenge story. Venice is a beautiful setting for a game, and there’s nothing like discovering it through the character Ezio. This part of the game has a better story than Brotherhood, and this is also where the series gets a bit of its own. While AC1 feels like a tech demo waiting to be completed, AC2 is more of a player’s needs.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag

When playing Assassin’s Creed 3, we all have the same thought: this type of boat fight is good. Why don’t they make a whole game based on this mechanic? And Black Flag made this dream come true.

Part of the fun of Assassin’s Creed is the idea of ​​exploring different periods in each game’s history, but that formula has slowly worn off, sometimes feeling the same no matter what the setting. Black Flag is the exception because the Golden Age of Pirates is more than just a backdrop to show off your parkour skills. After doing some templar assassinations, you’ll be able to be the captain of a private ship, there’s nothing like it.

You can strap four pistols to your chest and use them in hand-to-hand combat, and you can hunt ghost ships in the open seas. Admittedly, the plot is a bit tiring, but at least Kenway has more life, and the game also gives you more ways to sail on adventures. Black Flag leaves you hungry for a series of pirate games that focus on these values ​​without having to worry about the Assassin vs. Templars. It’s strange that the best part of Assassin’s Creed is the part that worries the least about the Assassin aspect.
