Ubisoft has finally revealed the gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege’s new “zombie” mode, which will take place during the 2018 Six Invitational. Rainbow Six Siege fans have been waiting for months to see how Ubisoft will announce the first version of PvE, which includes a story, cutscenes, and three entirely separate co-op missions.

According to Rainbow Six Siege technical director, Irvin Dos Reis, the column will be about a parasitic outbreak that occurred in the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. This is where the Soviets have been deploying a weapon since 40-50 years ago. Now, it has returned to the ground and crashed into the local landfill. The whole town has been infected with the parasite and only Team Rainbow can stop the plague from spreading to neighboring towns and other places. The Outbreak event will run for 4 weeks and is free for those who already own Rainbow Six Siege. Players can spend extra money to get skins only available at this event.

First, Outbreak will be a battle between 3 operators against 5 different types of enemies: Grunt, Breancher, Rooter, Apex and Smasher. In the three new maps, grunts and breachers will fill the map, but with the remaining three enemies, they will be present depending on the “event” taking place, according to the Ubisoft development team. These events are pre-scheduled and they will be triggered when the conditions are met.

Grunt is the weakest enemy, relying on numbers to overwhelm the operators and can break walls with their claws. When players are discovered, they will appear in large numbers. Breacher is an explosive type of enemy. As the name suggests, they can break fortified walls and damage the player by exploding. They are designed so that the players do not stand too close to each other. Exploding Breachers while they are around other monsters is also an effective way to defeat multiple enemies at once.

Rooter has the ability to teleport around the map, shoot spikes into the ground and hold players back. It has a bloodlust mode (turns crazy) when approaching to finish the trapped player, so the rooter is very dangerous. Apex is the top monster in the group. It competes with the player, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t dangerous: they fire ‘Echo’ projectiles that disorient the player, attack with toxic smoke that can deal massive damage, and can create Grunt-like disciples. , but more bulletproof. Smasher is a cross between Sledge and Montagne. Bullets will do nothing in front of the Smasher, forcing the team to work together to find its weak point. Smasher can knock players down with powerful attacks and, with his lightning-fast charge, can blast operators through windows behind them.

The new enemies can be so destructive, Ubisoft has increased the size of the map compared to the 5v5 format that Rainbow Six Siege players often encounter. For example, the first part of the upcoming Outbreak map called Hospital is 5 times bigger than House. Outbreak is also available on 3 different maps: Resort, Hospital, and Junk Yard. Each map will focus on its own playstyle. Resort balance between fighting inside and outside. Hospital forces players to fight in narrow corridors. Junk Yard will be a chaotic place with lots of things that can explode.

Outbreak will focus on the ‘stealth’ system. Players can sneak across the map with their flashlight turned off, silently taking down the parasites while continuing their journey. However, at times when everywhere is full of enemies, the player can try to pass or return to quieter locations to remain undetected. With a large environment with limited visibility, each operator will have a flashlight mounted on their body, to help better aiming, but that means their position will be detected.

From what we saw during the Six Invitational livestream, it looks like each map will be divided into separate regions. Map Hospital has a locked door that the player must enter, which is where they heal for health and ammo, and return to traditional game modes: the player must rescue a hostage named Dr. Makintosh, but instead Because of the immediate escort, they have to go through the Secure Arena, in-game, before they can continue. Operators all have special reinforcements that can be deployed faster than traditional containment, wall reinforcements.

Ubisoft not only limited the number of members per team to 3 in Outbreak, they also limited the number of operators you can choose to fit the environment in these event maps. This also marks the first time that offensive and defensive operators can work together, and will be a great way to introduce two new operators in Operation Chimera. While Thermite is part of the plot of the outbreak, the character is not playable during the event. As part of the fan service, players will see Thermite and Doc’s full faces.
