To prevent his pet game from becoming a game that no one wants to play anymore, publisher Krafton recently had to consider turning PUBG into a completely free Free to Play game. Not stopping there, Krafton recently decided to rename PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to a completely new name.
Specifically, according to the PCGamer site discovered, from July onwards, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will officially be renamed PUBG Battlegrounds, which means that PUBG Battlegrounds basically stands for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Battlegrounds. This change seems to have been made overnight with no fanfare or announcement, probably because publisher Krafton didn’t want to upset existing players.
No explanation has been given for the PUBG Battlegrounds name change, but it seems that this is one of the last moves of the publisher Krafton before PUBG becomes a true Dead Game. In addition, this is also considered a preparation step for new games in the “PUBG Universe” universe, when Krafton is developing a number of games set in the PUBG world.
“Rebranding PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to PUBG: Battlegrounds is the first step for us to realize this vision. Additional titles in the franchise will be titled PUBG, as you will see with our upcoming title, PUBG: New State.”
It is not known whether with this change to Free to Play form as well as having a new name, PUBG can somehow salvage its position. However, it must be admitted that at the moment, at least PUBG gamers have reason to rejoice.
