The Overwatch storyline always harkens back to the organization’s glory days. The stories from the game – in the comic books and animated shorts – make up the world of Overwatch, taking fans back in time in the gaming world. Now, it looks like Blizzard is ready to move forward and branch out into new directions for the story.

New short story titled Bastet, written by Michael Chu. The story is about the current encounter between Ana and Soldier: 76. It continues from Ana’s Old Soldiers story collection and focuses on a conversation between the two friends – a reminder of the past in the game’s present world.

There are many details surrounding the Overwatch plot, revealed through comic books and short animations. When Ana and Soldier: 76 met, we learned that Ana tried to contact her daughter Pharah but received no response. Soldier: 76’s private life is also mentioned. According to Chu, Soldier: 76 used to have feelings for a man named Vincent. Chu also confirmed on Twitter that Soldier: 76 and Vincent are gay and “in a relationship many years ago.” Soldier: 76 is the second character from the third world in the Overwatch universe.

Blizzard also used this short story to announce Ana’s new Overwatch skin. At the end of the story, after Soldier: 76 and Ana join the new quest, Blizzard introduces the Bastet Ana skin. It changes her outfit to white, purple, green, and yellow. Ana wears a lion mask with cat ears, an image of Bastet, an Egyptian goddess who protected the Pharaohs.

Overwatch fans can’t wait for the new story, which looks to the future rather than the past. The last time the plot was mentioned was at BlizzCon 2018 through the presence of the new hero Ashe. That’s also when we meet Echo, the mysterious white robot that is sure to be a big part of the game’s future. Blizzard only released one comic book volume in 2018, Retribution, which recounts an old Overwatch questline. Two animated shorts, Shooting Star and Reunion, and an appearance by Ashe, were introduced in 2018.
