Nvidia will support ray-tracing for 21 games, with demos of Tomb Raider and Control already released

On the morning of August 21, Nvidia announced the new generation of GeForce RTX graphics cards, and as expected, the company talked a lot about real-time ray-tracing. Nvidia’s hardware and software are ready, now we just have to wait for the games.

Before the GeForce event ended, Nvidia announced a series of blockbusters in development for the RTX platform, enabling ray-tracing and new AI systems in games. Currently, we have 21 titles.

“The Nvidia RTX platform and GeForce RTX series-20 GPUs will bring real-time ray-tracing to games 10 years earlier than expected,” said Tony Tamasi, Vice President of Content and Technology at Nvidia. Thanks to the hardware and AI leverage built into GeForce RTX GPUs, games will take advantage of the features that come in the future right now.”

All three demos show what real-time ray-tracing can bring. In short, ray-tracing greatly improves graphics compared to current rasterization technology.

Nvidia built the Turing architecture with ray-tracing, and on the software side, Nvidia’s RTX platform APIs and Mircosoft’s DirectX Raytracing (DXR) enable the gaming world to enter a new era. We have to wait a little longer before ray-tracing is fully adopted, but with the combination of rasterization and ray-tracing, game developers can create a much more detailed experience than before.

Amazing graphic details like this are only possible thanks to RT cores that are only available in Nvidia’s RTX line of cards. However, the new cards also add Tensor cores – performing system-intensive processing. Along with it, Nvidia’s new RTX cards support Deep Learning Super-Sampling (DLSS) technology. It allows deep learning and artificial memory to process graphics to smooth objects in the game.

With new anti-aliasing technology, combining real-time ray-tracing, it is possible that new games will look much better than current games. Nvidia says DLSS will be applied to many games, including Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass, Final Fantasy XV, Hitman 2.
