CSGO’s latest update has just added a custom texture streaming configuration, which will likely help increase FPS for the game.

Texture streaming allows textures to load from the user’s hard drive only when needed, reducing memory and increasing game performance significantly.

Even on powerful computers, texture streaming makes a big difference in FPS especially on new maps, which are often difficult to run on older PCs. Even with PCs that prioritize ‘performance’ (smooth play is better), FPS is increased by 10-20 because textures are only run when needed.

This technology is not new, but it is definitely an update that many people need. After a lot of information about CSGO’s Source 2 port, the game community was very excited to see a new update recently. Unfortunately, it is only 20MB and is not a port to the new engine. Aside from the texture streaming in this update, this patch doesn’t bring anything new.

What is Texture Streaming and how does it help CSGO?

Texture streaming can open the way to new customizations in settings, like increasing shader quality or texture size. By taking advantage of a new way to transfer textures and shaders without much impact on performance, Valve has paved the way for more updates with CSGO: allowing the game to have texture updates that increase resolution and improve the game’s graphics without not consumes too much computer resources.

Some gamers forget that before the Agent was introduced in the Shattered Web update, there were a series of updates that changed the textures of the T and CT characters to keep them up to date with the trends of the 21st century. Let’s review the model. character images before and after they were updated.

New CSGO update still doesn’t have Source 2

Although the Source 2 update hasn’t been released yet, Valve’s choice of this new streaming texture is intended to pave the way for many of CSGO’s next improvements.

Players can try out the new texture streaming feature in beta by right-clicking on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in the Steam Library, clicking Properties, going to the “Betas” tab above, and selecting “texture streaming beta” from the menu. After the update downloads, the new customizations can be found in the game’s video settings. It’s turned off by default, so anyone who wants to try it out has to manually turn it on.
