Missing super products in 2018: where are they?

2017 was a year filled with great games, from long-standing titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Persona 5 to surprising titles like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. In 2018, we also saw big announcements like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Metro Exodus. But in addition to the exciting news, there are games that are also slowly falling into oblivion.

Cyberpunk 2077 finally appeared in a one-word tweet, hinting that game maker CD Projekt Red will reveal more in the future. Although it is only one word, it is enough to take Cyberpunk out of the list of games that have disappeared in the past three years.

However, not all games are so lucky, there are a few names we have heard very little over the years. A few names were announced a long time ago but in the end were nowhere to be seen. They’re not commanded yet, just ‘hopeless’. From Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Borderlands and the list goes on, here are the biggest names we’re still waiting for:

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

You may remember that Final Fantasy VII Remake is still in development, but it has slowly drifted into oblivion over the last few months. First announced at E3 2015 Sony, and we got to see the gameplay trailer sometime later in 2015. The last news leaked out in May 2017 that Square Enix will develop the game in-house (instead of asking for outside help as previously announced). But the information is not very detailed. Star Wars games

EA closed the studio Visceral Games last October – the studio responsible for developing the Star Wars game is led by Amy Hennig. It is still unclear if the game will be developed elsewhere. EA’s Patrick Soderlund said the company “needs to revamp the design,” but the game hasn’t been cancelled.

In addition, the studio Respawn, the creator of Titanfall, is also developing the Star Wars game, announced on May 4, 2016. It’ll be “a third-person action-adventure set in the world of Star Wars,” but that’s what we know. EA acquired Respawn in November 2017, and the news makes no mention of these Star Wars games.

Pikmin 4

Back in 2015, Pikmin 4 was announced and looked “almost complete.” After almost a year of no news, Miyamota assured Pikmin fans that the next version is still happening. While the Hey Pikmin spinoff came out on the 3DS last year, it’s still unclear what’s going on with Pikmin 4, other than, ‘it’s happening’.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

A remake of Resident Evil 2 was confirmed in 2015, a year after the fan version was released. (Capcom also references fans.) The team behind Resident Evil HD Remaster will be in charge of this version, but the last we heard about the game was in April 2016, when producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi discussed Resident Evil 6’s influence on the remake project. . We still don’t know if Resident Evil 2 will keep the original camera perspective or adopt new camera systems.

Phantom Dust

Phantom Dust has entered the fourth year in a row on the list of missing titles. A reboot of the 2005 Xbox game was first announced at E3 2014, but the original studio, Dark Side Game Studios, closed down in February of last year. We saw leaked gameplay footage back in 2015 and it was confirmed that the game hasn’t been canceled yet, but we haven’t heard back since. A slightly improved version of Phantom Dust was released in May 2017.

Allison Road

Allison Road has had a rather rough journey. This project is considered the successor to the PT version and promises to fill the gaps left by Silent Hills. The game was initially funded on Kickstarter before being abandoned by crowdfunding in favor of Publisher Team17, and the project was canceled in June. Allison Road was revived by his father – who founded a new studio to continue. continue to develop it, which means Team17 will no longer be releasing it.

Allison Road is back from the dead, but we haven’t heard from them since. What we still remember is the small gameplay that was released in the past.

Tekken x Street Fighter

Tekken x Street Fighter was announced in 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360, and has been a complete mystery ever since. Producer Kutsuhiro Harada assured fans in 2014 and reiterated in 2015 that the fighting game that combines the two titles has not been canceled. However, in April 2016, Harada revealed that Tekken x Street Fighter was “no longer in development” and that publisher Bandai Namco was still waiting for the “ripe moment” to release it.

Bandai Namco told Gamespot that the Tekken team is focusing on developing the Tekken 7 DLC – we may have to wait a bit longer to see this game appear. It’s worth noting that Akuma from Street Fighter is a character from Tekken 7, so these two fighting game styles are definitely possible.

Dead Island 2

Survival zombie game Dead Island 2 debuted with a memorable trailer at E3 2014 – and that memory is still there, simply because we haven’t heard from the game since 2014. The game was originally slated to release in early 2014. Spring 2015 but then delayed to 2016. Then the game lost development studio Yager in July 2016. However, Deep Silver developer still assured fans that the game has not been canceled.

There has been no news about Dead Island 2 since March 2016, when it was announced that studio Sumo Digital – the father of LittleBigPlanet 3- would acquire the rights to develop the game. Last we knew about the game, Dead Island 2 will be set in California and feature four characters and an eight-player co-op mode.

Battlecry

Battlecry, a MOBA game with a historical concept and focus on melee combat, was announced in 2014. Studio Battlecry wanted to create a multiplayer multiplayer game that took the extra effort to design the female gladiators carefully. .

Battlecry had a trailer and global beta registration in 2015, but NPH Bethesda was concerned about its quality. It’s been two years and we haven’t heard more about the game.

Deep Down

This is the third year the game is on this list, the PS4 game Deep Down with Dark Souls style was revealed in 2013. Information and trailers about the game later appeared at TGS 2014, and a beta version is expected. in early 2015.

But the beta never happened. In February 2015, producer Yoshinori Ono stated that the game was not canceled but would have to be remade. In 2016, Capcom confirmed that a North American release date for Deep Down had never been released, but NPH is filing the rights for the game in the US in early 2017. This list cannot be without Agent! Set in the cold war, this game was revealed in 2007 and announced exclusively for PS3 in 2009, from Rockstar North – the development studio of Grand Theft Auto. Since then, the game has not been canceled, but very little is known about it.

The first images from Agent were revealed in 2011, when Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two confirmed the game was still in development. Two years later, Take-Two re-registered the Agent trademark. They re-registered again in 2014, on the eve of E3. New images appeared in 2015. And in late 2016, Take-Two is re-branding Agent again. Since then, all we’ve gotten is silence, but the game hasn’t been cancelled.

Wild

What we know about Wild now is the same as it was last year. The PS4-exclusive survival-adventure game was announced at Gamescom 2014, and we got to see some gameplay at Paris Games Week in October 2015. What we’re talking about is that you’ll play as a wizard with the ability ability to take over animals – and that’s what we know.

Borderlands 3 hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s heavily hinted at. Half-Life 3

We are forced to mention Half-Life 3, even though it has been recognized by fans that “the game will never happen.” Half-Life 2: Episode 3 was announced in 2006 but no further information was ever released; it hasn’t been cancelled. During the Reddit AMA in early 2017 (questions and answers on Reddit), Valve boss Gabe Newell said that there was a possibility of games in the world of Half-Life/Portal, so that was a signal.
