According to the indictment, Volodymyr Kvashuk joined Microsoft in 2017 as a cybersecurity engineer. His job is to make sure Microsoft’s payment system runs smoothly and securely. During the work, Volodymyr Kvashuk discovered a security hole. However, instead of reporting to the company to update and fix, Volodymyr Kvashuk secretly exploited this vulnerability and profited millions of dollars from the company.

After the incident was discovered, Microsoft quietly investigated and finally resorted to the legal system to bring it all to light. A federal agent raid on Volodymyr Kvashuk’s residence took place and most of the relevant evidence was collected.

After the trial, Volodymyr Kvashuk was sentenced to 9 years in prison and will have to pay Microsoft $ 8.3 million for damages he has done to the company. Not only that, Volodymyr Kvashuk is also likely to be deported to his homeland Ukraine after serving his prison term.
