Pre-Season 2019 started last morning (November 20) and we are still experiencing the new changes and additions introduced by Riot Games in update 8.23.

According to Riot’s announcement, League of Legends Ranking season 2019 will start on January 23 same version 9.1. Therefore, League of Legends players still have up to two months to get used to the new way of playing and learn about the changes that directly affect the process of “climbing”.

Yesterday, Ed “SapMagic” Altorfer, League of Legends Ranked Team Leader, shared “a lot of changes” that you definitely need to know about.

10 qualifying matches:

  • You will have a temporary Ranked level after the first match. In the future, only you can see it.
  • After the remaining ranked matches, you will gain LP when you win and do not lose LP if you lose.

Level & Team:

  • Iron Doan and Dai Cao Thu Doan have been added to the Ranked system.
  • New progression from low to high: Iron -> Silver -> Gold -> Platinum -> Diamond -> Master -> Grand Master -> Challenger.
  • Removed all V Tiers, now all Troops have the same four Tiers.

Ranked Armor:

  • You will receive a Ranked Armor immediately after completing 10 ranked matches.
  • You can set the display of your Level or Ranked Armor on your personal flag (same image above). However, this option is not yet available on the PBE.
  • You can choose to display past Ranked achievements hidden behind the Armor on your personal flags.
  • If activated, your Ranked Armor will be clearly visible on your Profile, friend bar icons, Lounge, flag tails, and loading screens.

According to Riot, the nine Ranked Armors all represent a region of Runeterra

User interface upgrade:

  • The display when the game ends has been upgraded to help you better understand the rank, the amount of LP won and even the prediction of the number of LP needed to advance…

Note that the changes related to the Ranked system will continue to be tested on the PBE in updates 9.1 and 9.2 – before the 2019 season kicks off.
