Korea SK Telecom T1 will form a PUBG team in August

Three-time League of Legends World Champion SK Telecom T1 is planning to expand the games the team will register to compete in next August, SKT CEO Dng-Hyun Jang has confirmed that “Giant” This team is eyeing a new Battle Royale phenomenon called PUBG and they are looking for players who take this professional competition seriously and as their passion.

SKT’s investment in PUBG will fill the gap left after their StarCraft II team disbanded. The StarCraft tournament was founded more than 15 years ago by legendary Lim “BoxeR” Yo-hwan and disbanded in 2016, along with several other teams. The tournament has found many talents in the Korean e-sports scene such as Choi “iloveoov” Yun-sung, Jung “Fantasy” Myung-hoon, Kim “Bisu” Taek-yong, and not to be missed. “Demon King” Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok.

After the StarCraft II team disbanded, League of Legends is currently the only game SKT has invested in and PUBG will be the second game they continue to invest in.

“The most important thing is the passion you have for the game,” Dong-hyun said in an interview on OGN’s Game Plus program.

PUBG became the most popular game released recently in 2017, breaking the record of 3 million concurrent players on Steam. The game has become so popular that it has prompted some of the e-sports moguls in Korea to start thinking about investing in building their own PUBG team, which includes KSV eSport and Lunatic- Two as well as SKT.
