However, using stickers on Discord has some limitations. Depending on the account, you may not always be able to use them. Here’s everything you need to know about Discord stickers.

What are stickers on Discord?

Sticker “hybrid” between emoji and GIF. It is a large, often cartoonish, image that portrays nearly any personal emotion.

The concept of stickers isn’t new as messaging apps like iMessage and WhatsApp have been offering stickers for years now.

How to use stickers on Discord

To use a sticker on Discord, select the corresponding icon from the message field. It’s in the same section as emoji and GIF.

On the left side of the sticker interface is a list of servers you join with stickers to use. The main panel shows stickers. To send a sticker while chatting, just click on it.

You cannot use stickers from one server in another unless you have a Discord Nitro account (not Nitro Classic). If you’re using Discord for free, you can only use stickers in servers that support them.

Discord Nitro members also have access to up to 300 special stickers designed by the developer.

If you’re running a server, you can’t block everyone from using stickers. However, if you don’t want stickers from another server to be used on your server, please disable the permission Use External Emoji and Stickers.

How to add stickers to Discord

If you want to add custom stickers to Discord, you’ll need to set up your own server or give someone permission.

That server also needs to be at Boost level. This is also a paid feature. The higher the server’s Boost level, the more stickers you can upload:

  • Level 1: 15 stickers
  • Level 2: 30 stickers
  • Level 3: 60 stickers

If the server level drops, you will lose space for those stickers.

You can only add and manage stickers of a server on the desktop – Android and iOS are not supported yet.

To add stickers to a server:

  1. Navigate to that server.
  2. Click the server name on the upper left.
  3. Click install Server.
  4. From the menu on the left, click Stickers.
  5. If your server level is high enough, click Upload stickers.
  6. Name the sticker, upload the file and select the relevant emoji. You can also add a description for those who use screen readers.
  7. When satisfied with its image, click Upload.

Request image files to be uploaded to Discord:

  • PNG (static) or APNG (dynamic) format
  • Maximum size 500KB
  • Exactly 320 x 320 pixels

Once you’ve uploaded a sticker, you can tap the pencil icon to edit it. However, you can only edit the sticker’s information. If you want to replace the sticker, you need to delete it and start over. Click icon X red to delete a sticker.
