According to information released by Danish website BT.dk, Astralis players earn hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, not counting winnings.
While the salaries of CSGO players have long been unknown, BT.dk recently said they have these numbers in mind. According to the information given, the salary of Astralis players is $364,000 USD per year, excluding tournament bonuses. As noted, Astralis players receive 90% of the prize money from any tournament they participate in. That means Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth, Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen, Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, and Emil “Magisk” Reif each got around $750,000 each in 2019.
This is a huge amount of money in a CSGO career, especially since Cloud9 president Dan Fiden once said CSGO costs organizations millions of dollars a year due to the way they operate with professional CSGO players.
Astralis was the most successful CSGO team of 2019, followed by Team Liquid. Thanks to a similar strong position in their region, there is a high chance that the salaries of the Liquid players are about the same. Unless they get a spot in the top teams, the salaries of the players can hardly match those of Astralis. With almost half of their earnings coming from prize money, Tier 2 teams entering the lower prize pools are unable to match Astralis’ towering salaries.
But with a series of leagues springing up, like the WINNERS League and the Mountain Dew League, the pay gap can be narrowed, even if not by much. Because the tournaments are held online, the organizers do not need to rent space or crew for the LAN tournament. That helps increase the amount of bonuses, as well as the income of the players.
CSGO fans have long believed that the top teams have very low salary income (not counting winnings), but with this report, we can finally get some idea of how much proplayers earn each year. .
