It looks like Google is ready to embrace more communities with Stadia. The company just announced new and old users in 14 countries will get Stadia Pro for free, and more importantly, anyone can sign up.
Stadia Pro normally costs $10 per month and currently has nine games: Destiny 2: The Collection, Grid, Gylt, Metro Exodus, Steamworld Dig 2, Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, Thumper, Serious Sam Collection, Spitlings, and Stacks on Stacks (on Stacks). Those who pay for the Pro version can also play games in 4K resolution if your internet can support it and 5.1 audio, while free users are limited to 1080p and stereo.
Google did not say exactly which countries Stadia Pro will be available in. And no matter where you live, you may not know if it’s in your area: Because the company says it will do so “within 48 hours” of announcement.
The good news is that we won’t be “bound” by policy: you can sign up, play for free for two months, and then quit. You will lose access to the free titles, but you can keep what you purchased on Stadia.
Google said that because so many people are currently playing games at home, it will apply a similar policy to YouTube, reducing Stadia’s bandwidth by temporarily leaving the default resolution from 4K to 1080p. Most people won’t notice the “significant loss” in quality, but you can bump it back up to 4K in the Stadia app.
