ESL announces new overtime scoring system

ESL announces new overtime scoring system

Starting from ESL Pro League season 6, the winner of overtime will be awarded 2 points, the losing team will receive 1 point. Meanwhile, normal matches (within 30 rounds) will still win 3 points, lose 0 points.

ESL Pro League will start in the next 4 days and ESL Pro League has some changes in the scoring system. In the past, a win was always awarded 3 points while the losing team would receive no points – even in cases of extra time. Starting from this season 6, the winning team in overtime will only receive 2 points while the losing team in overtime will receive 1 point.

This change was added after receiving positive feedback from teams and players during a meeting in Dallas during the Pro League season 5 finals. As shown in the table below, the system This new feature reduces the majority of tiebreak matches, and furthermore also increases interest in scoreboards and encourages teams to fight to get to extra time. From now on, extra innings will be played with the commands mp_maxrounds 6 and mp_startmoney 16000.

Example: Season 4 in EU (minimize tiebreaks from 4 to 1)
