EA Confirms New Details About Apex Legends Mobile

The launch time for the mobile version of the battle royale title, Apex Legends, is getting closer and closer. Recently, the developer shared new details about this mobile at the third quarter earnings meeting at EA.

The news about Apex Legends’ mobile version started in Season 2. The news was well received by gamers who are always on the go, but EA and Respawn Entertainment have not set an official release date.

Now, the publisher has confirmed in its Q3 report that it’s working with a Chinese partner to “create a mobile version of Apex Legends that will launch globally.” This news was reported by Daniel Ahmad, an analyst and industry insider.

EA and Reprise now officially confirm Apex Legends mobile is in full development

This means that the game is being developed with great effort to prepare for a mobile launch, after months of being tight-lipped. Electronic Arts is now looking for a publishing partner to ensure the game operates in China.

“To launch a mobile game in China, you need a partner, and as we said today, we are working with a partner in China. We are very excited about this opportunity,” confirmed EA CFO Blake Jorgensen.

Jorgensen, who answered many questions from investors during the Q&A session, confirmed that the Chinese partner is also working on a global mobile version of Apex Legends.

The developer hasn’t set a release date yet

While this is good news, EA has yet to decide on an official launch date, possibly because they are still in the early stages of collaborating with the unnamed developer. Jorgensen shared that there will be “more information regarding timing” to be announced soon.

This is not the first time EA has partnered with Chinese developers to launch mobile games for its popular titles. The American company released FIFA Online 4 and Need for Speed Online with Chinese giant Tencent.

Tencent also owns Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends and Legends of Runterra games. The Chinese company also holds the biggest mobile game on the planet, Arena of Valor. Recently, they also partnered with Activision to create a mobile version of the famous FPS franchise, Call of Duty.

So is Apex Legends coming to Nintendo Switch?

While mobile and tablet fans are cheering, there’s still one group of gamers who are being left out: those who own a Nintendo Switch.

Developer Drew McCoy confirmed last April that Switch users should “wait for more information in the future” about the possibility of the game expanding to the Nintendo Switch. EA’s Q3 earnings meeting doesn’t seem to have mentioned Nintendo’s console at all.

According to Ahmed, the publisher is “satisfied” with the progress of the Switch, and said it “is looking to add more games to the system,” but their release date won’t happen anytime soon.

In the new season called “Assimilation”, players will get access to a new Legend, the Revenant killer robot, a new Sentinel sniper rifle, a Battle Pass and “major map changes”.

Season 4 premieres this February 4.
