MDL Disneyland shows us all the great things of patch 7.21 – hero diversity, with 102 heroes being competed and 97 heroes picked. In addition, the strategy is equally diverse: many teams experiment with early and late game formations. But the league also has a few problems: no hero has a 100% competitive rate, but the two heroes with the highest competitive rate are Drow Ranger (93%) and Doom (98%).
However, apart from the two heroes mentioned above, the current meta is quite good. And we also have some new surprises. The two heroes listed below are worth applying in pub.
CARRY SVEN
Sven was picked a total of 6 times, winning all 6 games in the tournament. We can say that this hero has a high efficiency, even though the number of games tested is very low.
Sven hasn’t changed much in the way of gameplay – you still max your cleave, try to farm as much as you can with the Echo Saber early game and become strong and independent in the mid game with Blink Dagger. Sven is not the strongest carry and usually you’ll want to finish the match before 40 minutes, but he has an AoE stun and always has a way to save his teammates.
Seven is also very versatile – with the help of his talent set, depending on the situation, Sven can be the main damage dealer or play support. The only talent that the players at MDL all choose is +30 movement speed at level 15, but the dispel talent is still very valuable in certain games, like before Dark Seer, Necrophos or carries on Aeon. Disk.
Sven’s diverse build is also worth mentioning – in games with Dark Seer on his team, Sven can bypass the Blink Dagger and build boosters. We often see Sange and Yasha and then Satanic, to get more status resistance, similar to Troll Warlord. Finally, Bloodthorn is also a great item if the team can’t control the opponent.
Overall, this is a hero you should try until the next patch comes out, as Sven is one of the heroes that handles Drow Ranger very well. Sven farm is as fast as Drow. This hero is close to Drow with BKB turned on. In addition, Sven can also increase the bonus HP for allies with Warcry – this is a skill of great value against armor-piercing attacks.
ANCIENT APPARITION
The article does not recommend that you play Ancient Apparition in position 3, like Team Secret did in Evil Geniuses or position 2, like Virtus.pro vs Mineski. Heroes like Necrophos, Io, Bloodseeker, and Abaddon are currently enjoying great success in pubs at high ranks, while Morphling and Oracle are frequently countered early in the draft.
AA is pretty strong in lane, aside from its ability to disable healing. Most of AA’s strengths come from Chilling Touch with its massive damage early game. More importantly, it combines both physical and magic damage, meaning it’s somewhat effective against most offlane heroes, whether high HP or heavily armored.
However, AA needs to have active, lane teammates to shine – Cold Feet can’t work alone and it works best after stuns. Therefore, AA needs the support of a hero with a leg lock in the laning phase to be able to unleash its full power.
In the later stages of the game, AA can be as destructive as Ice Vortex – increasing magic damage – but the article still encourages you to max Cold Feet first, to increase damage and maximize lockability leg – 3.5 second stun and 360 damage! Chilling Touch should only be raised to 2 points until the remaining abilities are maxed out, as AA is most useful in the laning phase, instead of teamfight – where AA works best when standing from afar and launching out Ice Blast.
Overall, this is a pretty good hero in certain situations.
EPILOGUE
Like everyone, the author is also eagerly waiting for the next patch. Dota can receive a new breeze after nearly 4 months of stagnation at 7.21. But for such a long time, 7.21 still offers a lot of fun and surprises – every tournament we have new strategies and the presence of unfamiliar heroes.
Hopefully, the next patch will continue to be as diverse. It is highly likely that 7.22 will be the official patch of TI9 when we are only one Major away from the most prestigious tournament.
