The high-ranked pub meta is somewhat of a professional arena, but pubs also have their own popular heroes that are completely different. Self-reliance and the potential to impact every moment of the game no matter the lineup is what keeps the hero noticed in pubs. Today’s article will list the top strongest pos 5 support heroes in pub today (as long as your goal is to win).
OMNIKNIGHT
During his time in Dota 2, Omniknight was either extremely powerful, or extremely useless. For now, the hero is at point one. With the changes in 7.31, many people think Omniknight will be weak. Losing Status Resistance in Heavenly Grace is a big loss, but we leave out a few other important details.
One of those details is a new stat in Heavenly Grace and this is a skill that should be maxed first in pubs. It adds a lot of Strength and HP recovery, as well as a bonus for the amount of Debuff Dispel. The new change makes Heavenly Grace twice as powerful, making it a game-changing move.
The problem of the previous Omniknight support was quite simple. The hero himself was quite weak in lane and his active play was very limited. The hero can now give 720HP extra and 24 HP healing, since the skill can buff the Omniknight himself and his teammates. Basically, it’s like having one more ally in the lane, not to mention Omniknight and his teammates can also gain additional damage (if it is a Strength hero).
Hammer of Purity’s damage is now easier to use, with a 5 second slow. Although it only slows 14%, but it is enough for you to catch up with your opponent and hit more hits.
In short, Omniknight patch 7.31 creates a laning phase that makes the opponent not dare to fight. Any active attack of the opponent will be countered very strongly. In addition, you can also change to the active position, depending on what the team’s carry is. Omniknight can be considered the top pos 5 support ‘babysit’ premium hero of patch 7.31 plus stronger abilities later on.
One last piece of advice when you have to face Omniknight: don’t get on the Blight Stone or Orb of Venom in the lane. Because these debuffs will be fully exploited by Heavenly Grace, helping to heal and increase free HP for Omniknight.
UNDYING
There was a time after 7.31b when Undying felt a bit weaker, but that’s compared to the ‘super strong’ period at the beginning of patch 7.31. With the change of damage type from Zombie, Tombstone was then too strong, forced to nerf. However, even after the nerf, Undying still attracts attention.
There are two main strengths from Undying. Hero dominates the lane, can win most of the familiar offlaners or force the opponent to adjust, if not to be countered. Undying is extremely flexible in build items. Hero can build any support item and still be highly effective. With the extra HP from his ultimate and Decay, Undying also survived through the early game fights. By surviving, Undying easily gains items and levels faster, compared to other pos 5 support heroes.
Holy Locket, Boots of Bearing, Guardian Greaves, Glimmer Cape and Wraith Pact are all effective for Undying, but deciding which item to build can sometimes be a headache. The article is extremely supportive of Wraith Pact, as the item not only solves the problem of lack of mana hero encountered, but it also protects Tombstone extremely well. However, depending on the situation of the match then, we are still forced to prioritize other items.
Although Zombies are nerfed, the talent that increases Zombie damage at level 15 is not nerfed. Thanks to the damage type change, this talent is now stronger in a lot of situations. The Soul Rip +12 damage/heal talent is still more popular, but the Zombie upgrade is something to consider if the enemy is having a hard time dealing with Tombstone.
BANE
Looks like we can’t remove this hero from the list yet. While not the best support in the game, Bane hasn’t completely disappeared. This hero is almost unchanged from last year.
We still leveled Brain Sap up 2 levels in the laning phase and then maxed out Nightmare to get more cast range, allowing you to safely set up kills for the team. Players still build items that help exploit Fiend’s Grip better, be it Glimmer Cape or Aether Lens. You still need Aghanim’s Sceptre late game, but can be fully played even without it.
There is no trick to playing this hero. Bane is very strong if you already have good support habits. Choosing a standing position, being alert to everything on the map, and being willing to make sacrifices are qualities we need to play Bane effectively.
And should give Enfeeble a point if facing heroes that depend on mobility to survive. Morphling, Anti-mage and Queen of Pain when cast Enfeeble will lose 30% of their cast range, making it extremely difficult to move their farm. Other than that, Enfeeble isn’t very impressive, but it will cause opponents to ’tilt’, an aspect that makes Bane a great pub hero.
EPILOGUE
Meta hero pos 5 support has changed very little from the previous patch. We still see Undying and Bane in the top. I must say, this is a bit of a disappointment.
Note, many people may wonder why Chen is not mentioned here even though he is a hero in high rank pub. In Chen’s case, the hero isn’t popular enough to make this list in general. And if you’re not afraid of the ‘microphone’, this is a great time to practice Chen.
