Tencent Corporation decided to gamble on Fortnite’s Esports future after announcing a $15.8 million investment in the game in China. Tencent has planned “global professional, regional and online tournaments.”

This news was brought by DoNews, with Tencent investing a lot of money in the facilities for the game as well as the Esports platform. In addition, they will also bring in the production team to ensure Fortnite reaches a wider user market than it currently has.

Tencent currently has a lot of potential, after gaining a lot of experience from being a publisher for Fortnite’s rival PUBG in China and owning Riot Games, the studio of the famous Esports game League of Legends.

After the game goes live, Tencent will invest 50 million yuan ($8 million) to nurture and encourage users to create content for the game,” said DoNews, according to a translation by The Esports Obsever.

“At the same time, Tencent will be adding Fortnite to Tencent’s growing list of esports titles. The group will create global online, regional and professional tournaments and has invested an additional 50 million yuan to support esports teams, casters and media teams.”

As soon as the game was announced to launch in China, a trailer for the game also appeared (video below), describing the Fortnite development team as Epic Games welcoming the Chinese community.

The world will also find out what the Fortnite experience as an esport will be like over the weekend, when Twitch’s most popular streamer, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, hosts the open tournament at the Esports Arena in Las Vegas.
