Dota 2: OpenAI Computer Beats TI8 Champion OG 2-0

OG thua OpenAI
OG lost to OpenAI

At TI8, Pain Gaming and a team of legendary Chinese players played against OpenAI. Both of these teams beat OpenAI, but Artificial Intelligence made it a tougher match than many thought. On April 13 in San Francisco USA, OpenAI bots this time faced TI8 champions in BO3 format and defeated them 2-0. The bots get better and better with each defeat, and it seems they have learned a lot from the losses at TI8.

Game 1 – 38 minutes

Game 1 was full of tension between both sides: The networth of both was quite balanced. OpenAI has had a couple of quick buybacks that are a bit confusing, but they usually work nearly every time. The tug-of-war also ended after that and OpenAI took all the barracks as well as the match within 38 minutes. They have a 4 core lineup with Sven playing in position 4 – but farming just as much as any other role.

Game 2 – 21 minutes

Game 2 was completely different from game 1: OpenAI took down the TI8 champion in just 21 minutes. This time, Sven plays in position 3, showing that bots can adapt to the play of a hero in many different positions. OG couldn’t find a loophole in the gameplay and the match ended to the surprise of many!

The OpenAI team really did the unthinkable after almost a year of testing. Maybe the dev team will add more heroes to OpenAI. The bots are sure to shine at TI9 matches in Shanghai – the most prestigious Dota 2 tournament of the year.
