After the Kuala Lumpur Major qualifiers, Newbee quietly dropped one member from the roster, bringing him down to the second team, while the main team is now down to four players.

After the TI8 transfer window ended, Newbee replaced Hu “Kaka” Liangzhi and Damien “kpii” Chok to welcome the rookie from the second team, similar to how Song “Sccc” Chun from 2015-2016, when he also plays for Newbee.Young. This year, the new face to join the team from Newbee.Young is Tang “CatYou” Xiaolei, who replaced Kaka as support, but seems to have fallen short of the team’s expectations.

Newbee was eliminated by Team Serenity in the second round of the first Major’s China qualifier. With no official announcement, Newbee has changed its roster, as you can see on the Major Registration Website. CatYou was relegated to Newbee’s sub-team Newbee Mr Game Boy (Newbee.mgb), while Luo “Xi” Yinqi, the fifth member of this team, was relegated to no team.

Under the new rules applied to the 2018-2019 Dota Pro Circuit season, a team can change as many rosters as they want, but each player removed from the roster will reduce the team’s total DPC score by 20%. With Newbee, when they don’t have any DPC points, no points will be deducted from CatYou’s exclusion. Also, when the first Minor qualifiers were just announced, if Newbee didn’t announce an official CatYou replacement, the team could enter the open qualifiers with stand-in, with no penalty.

DreamLeague Season 10 has just been announced as the first Minor of the season. While the attendance numbers for this year’s Minor events are nearly insignificant when compared with the bonus points from the Major, winning a Minor will help the winning team qualify for the Major later. In the best case scenario for Newbee, if the team qualifies for the DreamLeague Minor, winning it could advance to the Kuala Lumpur Major.

The DreamLeague Minor Open Qualifiers will begin this Sunday, September 23. While the closed qualifiers of the regions start from September 25.
