Over the past few months, Weaver has been growing in popularity and has an increasing win rate, especially at high ranks. However, this is not the only reason the article wants to talk about this hero. Weaver is also one of the stealth heroes in the game that really comes in handy for guiding new players. This time, we will learn how to play Weaver at high rank as well as a guide to playing Weaver effectively for new players.
WEAVER HAS BEEN BUFFED TO ANNOUNCEMENT
Over the years, Valve and IceFrog have known how to make heroes ‘look stronger’, but in reality they’re not really that much stronger. We can understand this adjustment is only to change the meta or increase the popularity of heroes but does not affect the balance in the game badly. Weaver 7.28 is a prime example. Weaver has a new item selection that creates potential in teamfight and attacks many heroes, while the gameplay remains unchanged.
Weaver’s Aghanim’s Shard is quite strong: Swarm cooldown reduction, combined with the ability to track stealthy enemies, then increase DPS. However, most of the time, the game doesn’t really force the player to get this item.
Instead, what makes Weaver stronger lies in new items. Falcon Blade is definitely the item that gets the most attention. Falcon Blade can replace Ring of Aquila in terms of stats, partly to save hunger for Agility cores who don’t mind spamming skills to farm and need more health to survive ganks.
The second biggest item is Gleipnir: this item initially seemed unreasonable for Weaver, compared to Mjollnir, but the stats it gave were really good. Not to mention the active part of Gleipnir is also very important when facing mobile and agile heroes.
Weaver also multiplies in the mid-game where most heroes can be killed as long as Weaver keeps up with the pace of the game. Weaver almost chases heroes that don’t possess high mobility. Gleipnir can solve this problem, but in return, the mana payout is quite high. Gleipnir costs a lot of mana to activate (200 mana), but it adds 20 Intelligence. As long as Weaver’s mana regeneration is good, the hero can use Gleipnir completely. Also, coincidentally, Falcon Blade appeared at the right time to fix Weaver’s lack of mana problem.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PLAYING STEALTH WEAVER “THE RIGHT WAY”
In a previous post, the author said that stealth heroes are not suitable for new players and I still maintain that stance in this article. However, stealth is still a mechanic in Dota and we definitely need to know it to better understand the game. Therefore, the author believes that Weaver is the right hero to get used to the stealth mechanism.
Weaver’s stealth is viewed more actively than other stealth heroes. To get the most out of it, players need to approach the opponent. This is Weaver’s default gameplay and is proof that stealth can be used not only as a means of escape, but also as a threat to enemies. Actually, at high ranks, this is the main stealth use and is used to rotate without being detected by the enemy team.
MOTOR TANK?
Finally, we will talk about the current gameplay of Weaver. No one can apply ‘glass cannon’ to Weaver (high damage paper health). Previously, players tried to take advantage of maneuverability and Time Lapse to survive, stacking rewards to maximize the power of Geminate Attack. Now, it seems the gameplay has changed.
Falcon Blade adds health to Weaver. Rod of Atos, part of Gleipnir’s recipe, also increases the hero’s HP. Power Treads have the potential to increase Weaver’s health, and then we have other popular items like S&Y and Eye of Skadi. Hero also usually chooses Talent level 15 +11 Strength. Weaver might not be the most aggressive Agility hero, but that shouldn’t stop players from building a mobile tank playstyle.
Although this build limits damage, it increases the hero’s buff a lot. Weaver is hard to catch: agile hero with stealth. Even if caught, unless you burst on the spot, Weaver will use Time Lapse to heal again. Capturing Weaver twice and dealing enough damage twice, while gradually being de-armored by Swarm, and then being harassed by Weaver’s teammates, must be said to be an extremely difficult situation.
Also, Weaver completely kills supports without DPS items. It may take longer, but Weaver has a decent Agility increase per level, armor reduction and Double Damage every 3 seconds. Although not following the glass cannon path, Weaver is completely impossible to be ignored by the opponent. Weaver will be very annoying and a formidable danger. With a mobile build tank, Weaver’s task is to survive and ‘poke’ the opponent: slowly, the enemy must also go to the countdown board.
EPILOGUE
Weaver is one of the most unique heroes in the game right now. Stealth but not exactly stealth hero. Hero moves but does not possess real mobility skills, just a movement speeding effect. Carry DPS, but not on DPS items and instead focus on increasing survivability. Overall, this is a very annoying hero, suitable for the current meta and can work well in most squads.
So what do you think of Weaver? Do you agree this is a suitable hero for new players, or is it best to let veteran gamers hold it? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
