Astralis confirmed to have owned Patrick “es3tag” Hansen as of July 1, increasing the team’s roster to six members.

With the presence of the 24-year-old and a six-member squad, Astralis hopes to improve the working conditions of its players and allow them to rest to recuperate physically and mentally if needed.

In Tweetsthe organization’s CEO Nikolaj Nyholm explained that expanding the roster has long been their goal since Nicolai “device” Reedtz was hospitalized for weeks at the end of 2017. That forced the team to use stand-ins in the game. the last two tournaments of the year are BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen and ESL Pro League Season 6 Finals.

Although there have been debates in the community, owning all 6 permanent members is something that has never happened in the top tier CSGO – where teams often choose temporary stand-ins only. More recently, AGO also owns 7 members and is striving for two in different positions.

“Our job with Astralis and all of its teams is to focus on performance and health. It is our responsibility as an organization to ensure optimal conditions for employees at all levels, and especially players, who are constantly under high pressure during competition. Increasing the roster to six is something we’ve been working with across Counter-Strike stakeholders,” said Astralis sporting director Kasper Hvidt.

“This approach is no different in traditional sports, but is new to Counter-Strike, and such a change would take time to take full advantage of. The players, coaches and team were involved in this decision and everyone agrees this is the right direction.”

es3tag will join the Danish organization after his current contract ends. According to rumors from FunPlus Phoenix and Heroic’s negotiations, the deal broke down due to Astralis’ last-minute intervention.

This transfer has prompted Heroic CEO Erik Askered to speak up. He said the organization is preparing legal documents after Astralis misbehaved and affected the sale of the team to FunPlus Phoenix. Nyholm later defended the actions of the Astralis organization, saying they did not harm Heroic or FunPlus Phoenix – both of which had been informed of Astralis’ contract with es3tag.

Astralis will have the following lineup as of July 1:

Denmark Nicholas “device” Reedtz
Denmark Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth
Denmark Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen
Denmark Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander
Denmark Emil “Magisk” Reif
Denmark Patrick “es3tag” Hansen

Denmark Danny “Zonic” Srensen (coach)]
