Apple Arcade, a paid gaming service, has more than 100 exclusive games on the Apple ecosystem

Apple Arcade is the new paid gaming service. Apple executives describe it as a collection of the best games to experience on mobile, desktop, and the living room. It is part of a new paid service announced by CEO Tim Cook on March 25. Price has not been announced yet. The service will launch this fall.

Ann Thai, the App Store’s director of product marketing, appeared to make the announcement. Arcade will include more than 100 new exclusive games, she said, which are not yet available on any other paid platform or service. Users can download and play games on their devices, the freedom to try as much as they like. The service is compatible with Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple is quick to point out that all games can be played offline.

Family sharing is also available in Apple Arade at no extra cost.

Ann Thai also introduces many of the big-name studios and developers that Apple will work with. Among them are Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, and Bekah Saltsman, CEO and co-founder of Finji.

Cook started the presentation by highlighting the security capabilities that the iOS platform brings to users. Thai reinforces this, saying games cannot track users, or collect any information from them without their consent.

Apple Arcade is different from Google Stadia, the new platform announced last week. The search mogul uses powerful data centers to stream AAA-quality game graphics to users on the internet. Apple’s system does not. It is similar to Xbox Game Pass, allowing consumers to download and play games from the library for a flat monthly fee.

Also different from Google Stadia, Apple announced many names of development and publishing partners, including:

  • Annapurna
  • Skybound
  • Mistwalker
  • WayForward
  • Klei
  • Finji
  • Hipster Whale
  • Cornfox
  • Bossa
  • Noodlecake Studios
  • Sumo Digital
  • State of Play
  • Night School
  • KO-OP
  • Disney
  • Sega
  • Lego
  • Konami
  • Raw Fury
  • Devolver
  • Cartoon Network
  • Platinum Games
  • Versus Evil
  • Blowfish
  • Mountains
  • Kunabi Brother
  • Rac7
  • Gameloft
  • Aquiris
  • Gallium Artists
  • The Chinese Room
  • ustwo

This new announcement marks a new turning point for the tech mogul, who now focuses on services, not just hardware companies. Apple also shared a new innovative news app, and a user credit card integration solution. Sales of iPhones and other Apple devices have slowed over the years, leading many to predict that the market is saturated.
